We FINALLY had a chance to have brunch this past Saturday at Blue's Egg, which is just on the Milwaukee side of Wauwatosa. We have been hearing such great things about this place, but every time we try and go on a Saturday, it's over an hour wait, and they don't take reservations OR call ahead. Also, you should know that they're only open for breakfast and lunch, so plan accordingly!
Well this weekend we tried again. Casey & Amanda were in town visiting, so we thought brunch would be a fun way to start our Saturday. For the six of us (Missy & Kyle came too) we called and found it was about a 30 minute wait so we headed right over. The inside of the restaurant is set up like a 50's diner. The menu was half drinks, half breakfast food and at first I was disappointed by it's smallish size, but they had a separate "Specials of the Day" menu, and we all LOVED our food. Even though the diner decor seems a little dated (on purpose I think), the food comes out looking modern and well-plated, which I appreciated.
For drinks we had The Dairy State (whiskey milkshake type drink), Manmosa (beer/orange juice), Mimosa, and cappuccinos. All the drinks were very good and we appreciated the unique menu of beverages!
For food we had several varieties of the omlettes (zesty sausage, pulled ham, ratatouille, and the special of the day-BRAT). They all came served with ultra thick and soft toast which was VERY good, and homemade butter and strawberry preserves. We also got to choose a side. I would recommend the Petite Fruit Smootie (not too small and very creamy/fruity).
Prices were about $8-10 per plate. Drinks were around $6 (cappuccinos were $3, and our waiter kept topping them off with house coffee). It did take quite a while to get our food, but we were a group of 6, so that might be why. While we waited we were served a bowl of firm red grapes.
Our waiter was VERY nice and checked in on us quite often. We were never left waiting for him to offer us something or ask if we needed anything.
I would definitely recommend Blue's Egg! Especially for a Saturday or Sunday brunch!
